Project at Risk Due to COVID-19

National Lottery Heritage Fund has suspended applications for financial support until October 2020 at the earliest leaving the financial goal for the Workington Stella Maris Project in doubt. We are grateful for the generosity of the public to date but closure of churches means that donations by visitors in the collection boxes in the church of Our Lady Star of The Sea and St Michaels are no longer possible. Fundraising events have had to be postponed or cancelled etc resulting in a considerable reduction in income for the project .

Our parish priests have been amazing and ensured that daily masses are still available through live streaming and have made sure that even at times of great sorrow we can still have a requiem mass for our loved ones which they have run simultaneously with the grave side /crematorium Services. They have adapted the live streaming to allow masses to be recorded and a Friends of Christ the Good Shepherd Workington group has been set up on social media to help support Parishioners who are struggling at this time.

This is living proof that Our Lady Star of the Sea and St Michaels church is not only a beautiful historic building but in times of crisis has been able to adapt through modern technology and reach out to people who are isolated and vulnerable.

So the question is ? where would we have been if this church was not available to reach out to people in these troubling times and my plea is for you to continue to give in whatever way you can see below :-
